Whether you’re a seasoned guitarist looking for a new challenge or an aspiring new musician looking for their niche, a beginner-level lap steel guitar is the best way to learn the ins and outs of the instrument without leaving an empty wallet behind. In this, my first Instructable, I will attempt to chronicle the construction of a simple Lap Steel guitar. The neck-through design of the main body is made from American Swamp Ash. Students will have the option of two models and will end up with a fully functioning lap steel in the raw (no finish). After getting more versed in lap steel playing, you’ll get a better hold of the intonation and you’ll have more control not only over classic slide playing but also of your bends and vibratos in conventional playing.
